SPIRAL STAIRS
Phnom Penh is the capital of a third world country under rapid development. Many areas of the city have been razed to the ground to leave space for new buildings. Unfortunately, the architectural heritage has almost disappeared. As an architect working here, I try as much as I can to suggest the renovation of the existing buildings rather than the destruction of them. Even if it can often be the most challenging way to go, it will be the most rewarding for sure.
This project is an example of what can be done with existing buildings to bring to new life to unused areas of the city. The project’s goals are:
-To reimagine the architecture of a railway compound
-To shift the perception of its original function
-To transform the space into a post-industrial hub for creative and high end brands
-To give an abandoned building new life
