The design of the façade came as the result of an existing structure and glass façade that had to be preserved. Facing west, the hottest side during the afternoon hours, the façade required to be shaded to protect the internal space from the sun. We discussed and considered various materials for the louvres, such as glass, aluminium, galvanised steel, faux wood or ceramic. In the end we selected aluminium due to being lightweight and then cladded it with a ceramic layer for its aesthetic look.
